In Senegal, greeting someone ('Salaam aleikum' / 'Nanga def?') before making any request is essential social protocol. Going straight to a request without a greeting is considered rude.

2. Respect Islamic practices — prayer times and fasting during Ramadan

Senegal is approximately 95% Muslim. Prayer times (5 per day) mean shops and services briefly pause. During Ramadan, eating and drinking in public during daylight hours is disrespectful.
