1. Walking in swimwear away from the beach is illegal in coastal cities

Barcelona, Palma de Mallorca, and other coastal cities have ordinances banning swimwear, going topless, and bare feet in areas outside the beach. Fines are actively issued in tourist areas.

2. Open-container drinking on the street is banned in most cities

Drinking alcohol on public streets and squares ('botellón') is banned in most Spanish cities, including Barcelona and Madrid. Fines are issued by police, particularly at night.

3. Meal times are very late — restaurants do not open for dinner until 9 pm

Lunch in Spain is the main meal, typically between 2–4 pm. Dinner does not start until 9–10 pm, and restaurants may not be full until midnight. Tourist restaurants open earlier but local restaurants will be nearly empty at 7 pm.
