1. Drug trafficking carries the mandatory death penalty

Malaysia imposes the mandatory death penalty for trafficking more than threshold quantities of drugs (200g morphine, 40g heroin, 500g cannabis, etc.). The law applies to foreign nationals without exception.

2. Dress modestly in mosques and traditional areas

Malaysia is a majority-Muslim country. Shorts and sleeveless tops are not appropriate in mosques — robes are provided at major mosques like Masjid Negara. In conservative states (Kelantan, Terengganu), public dress codes are stricter.

3. LGBTQ+ activity is illegal under civil and Sharia law

Same-sex relations are illegal in Malaysia under both civil law (up to 20 years imprisonment) and Sharia law (for Muslims). This applies to foreign nationals under civil law.
