Theravada Buddhist monks in Laos observe the same rules as in Thailand — women may not touch monks or pass items directly to them. Items should be placed on a cloth or passed via a man.

2. Political speech and criticism of the government is prohibited

Laos is a one-party communist state. Criticising the government, the ruling LPRP, or its leadership is illegal. This applies to statements made in public, on social media, or to local people.
