Hong Kong's National Security Law (NSL) criminalises secession, subversion, terrorism, and collusion with foreign forces. Social media posts, protests, or materials deemed to advocate these things can result in arrest. The law applies to actions committed abroad if the person is in Hong Kong.
Hong Kong operates under a distinct legal system and has different social norms, currency (HKD), and internet access compared to mainland China. The Great Firewall does not apply in Hong Kong — Google, WhatsApp, and social media are accessible.
